The most likely candidate is a blown fuse.

If your DSL is completely dead, and when you plug the charger you get the orange light to come on and then turn off immediately, this would be the F2 fuse that is blown. Keep in mind that there are also other malfunctions defects that may exhibit this same behavior, but start with this prognosis.
If your DSL turns on OK and works fine, but just won't charge, then it's fuse F1 that is the problem.

Search online for "DS LITE FUSE REPLACEMENT", and you will find walkthroughs on the procedure (usually with pictures).
I don't recommend solder-jumping the fuse like some sites say; remember that fuses are there for a reason and if you get another short/over-current event in the future, it will likely fry the motherboard.
That said, be advised that these fuses are surface-mount, and about the size of a surface-mount resistor. They're a b*tch to replace with an ordinary soldering iron.
A local DSL repair shop will usually charge a LOT less than the 70$ you had to pay last time...!
