shut down

Postby hartsgt » Thu Sep 10, 2009 11:23 pm

my daughters ds lite just started shutting down automatically. on start up things are fine as long as the screen is not opened past 90 degrees. as soon as you open up any more it shuts down. i pulled the cover off and moved the ribbon cable and seems like it might be the problem. is this normally the issue and if so do i need to purchase an upper screen to fix this? any help from anyone would be appreciated

thanks

Yes, this is how the DS lite responds to a bad screen connection. Usually, you will see the good screen flash during shutdown (the bottom one in your case).

This symptom has 2 major causes; the first being a bad connector, the second being a frayed/damaged ribbon cable. Yours is most likely the second one, since you mention it happens when you open the cover more than 90 degrees (thus flexing the ribbon cable more).

You will most likely have to replace the topscreen LCD, since the ribbon cable is an integral part of the screen. This is a delicate task, and make sure that you feel confident and skilled enough to attempt it - there will also be soldering involved (the speakers are soldered to points on the ribbon cable next to the LCD itself).

Good luck, and hope you are enjoying your fixed NDSL soon! ;)
